What it is
Its own category, not a ceramic coating
Icon Rocklear is a permanent coating that bonds chemically to your clear coat and becomes part of your paint. It is not a ceramic coating, which sits on top and wears off in a few years, and it is not PPF, a plastic film that yellows, shows seams, and gets replaced. Icon Rocklear goes on once. Nothing is added back on top, and nothing peels or fades.
The result
Better than brand new
The line we hear most from customers is that their car looks better than the day they bought it. Icon Rocklear adds real thickness to the finish, so the paint looks deeper and glossier and the metallic flake pops. A faded car comes back looking new again, and a new car holds that look for years.
How it works
Bonded in, not laid on top
We strip the paint back to a clean surface, then apply Icon Rocklear as a liquid that self-levels and cures overnight into a hard, permanent layer about 2.5 mils thick, roughly double your factory clear coat. Most cars are a one-day drop-off, and every install includes a free 30-day follow-up to inspect and perfect the finish. It sheets water off cleanly, needs no waxing and no annual maintenance, and never needs reapplication.
Lab tested
Tested, not just claimed
120 in/lbs
Impact resistance (ASTM D-2794), versus 80 for ceramic. Shrugs off rock chips and parking-lot dings.
540 psi
Adhesion (ASTM D4541). It bonds chemically as part of your clear coat, not a film that peels off.
4,000 hours
UV and weathering (ASTM D4587) with zero visual change. It will not yellow.
Backed by a 15-year manufacturer warranty. Add layers for more thickness: 2 layers carry 30 years, 3 layers 45.
Rocklear vs ceramic vs PPF
How it stacks up
Ceramic coatings wear off in a few years and need annual upkeep. PPF is a thick film that can yellow, show seams, and lift your clear coat when removed. Icon Rocklear is permanent, has no film and no seams, never yellows, and is done once.

Common questions
Icon Rocklear FAQ
How much does Icon Rocklear cost?
During our 50% Summer Sale, a single layer starts at $925 for coupes and roadsters and runs to $1,625 for XL SUVs and trucks. Our most popular package, 3 layers on the front end plus a full layer all around, runs $1,725 to $2,475 by vehicle size, and a full-body multi-layer build runs $2,875 to $5,175. Every tier includes the same 15-year warranty, with no annual fees. Summer Sale pricing ends when summer does, and the price you book at is the price you pay.
Is Icon Rocklear a ceramic coating?
No. A ceramic coating sits on top of your paint and wears off in a few years. Icon Rocklear bonds chemically and becomes part of your clear coat. It is permanent, with nothing to reapply.
How long does it last?
Each layer carries a 15-year manufacturer warranty, and it will not fade or yellow for the life of the coating. The UV inhibitors are what wear down over time, and the factory paint underneath is left untouched with years of life still in it.
Will it stop rock chips?
It adds real impact resistance, especially with extra layers on the front of the car, but it is not rock-chip-proof and we will never tell you it is. Light scratches polish out, and the coating takes the wear instead of your paint.
Is it worth it on a daily driver?
Yes. You get UV, chemical, water, and environmental protection plus the deeper, glossier look, for far less than full PPF costs over the same years.
Can it be removed?
No, Icon Rocklear is permanent. If you want protection you can remove or change later, ask us about PeelClear, our removable option.
Does it need maintenance?
No annual maintenance and no special products. It sheets water off the surface, so dirt and minerals rinse away. A normal soap-and-water wash keeps it looking its best.
What is the difference between the three packages?
A single layer gives your whole car the same 15-year protected finish. The 3-Layer Front package stacks three layers on the panels that take the most abuse, the bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors, with one layer everywhere else. The full-body multi-layer build carries that maximum protection across the entire vehicle. All three carry the identical 15-year warranty. The difference is thickness where impacts happen, not coverage.
How does the cost compare to ceramic coating or PPF?
Over 15 years, ceramic coating typically costs $6,150 or more once you count reapplication every 3 to 5 years, and paint protection film runs $13,500 or more including the reinstall when the film ages out around year 10. Icon Rocklear is a one-time installation. There is no reapplication cycle, no film to replace, no yellowing, and no visible seams.
Are there annual fees to keep the warranty valid?
No. There are no annual fees, no required inspection visits, and nothing you have to buy to keep the 15-year warranty valid. Some paint protection warranties require paid yearly visits. Ours does not. It is installed once and you are covered.
Can I split the cost into monthly payments?
Yes. Through Affirm you can split your price into monthly payments. A coupe single layer at $925 works out to about $77 a month over 12 months. Rates run 0 to 36% APR based on credit, and your exact terms are shown before you commit.
What do the add-on coatings cost?
Glass coating, trim coating, and wheel coating are $150 each during the Summer Sale, regularly $300. They are applied in the same visit as your Rocklear install.
Why get it done at Dragon Auto?
We are the largest Icon Rocklear shop in the Bay Area and the highest-rated Rocklear installer in the country, with the highest review score and the most reviews of any installer at 4.9 stars across 400+ Google reviews. We have helped thousands of vehicle owners, and Rocklear installs are what our shop runs on every day.
How long does the install take?
A single-layer install books one day, and multi-layer packages book up to three days. Every install starts with a full decontamination wash, clay bar, and machine polish, so the coating locks in a corrected finish, not the swirls under it.
