Tesla paint is soft and thin, it chips early and shows swirl marks fast, which is why so many Model 3 and Model Y owners start out searching for paint protection film. We don’t install PPF. It’s a templated film with visible seams, it yellows under UV, and peeling it off years later can take paint with it.
What we put on instead is Icon Rocklear, a permanent paint protection coating, up to 2.5 mils per layer, thicker than your factory clear coat and bonded into it, with no seams and nothing to peel off later. For the front end we layer it three deep across the hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors, which leaves a 237 commuter with far fewer chips than a bare front end. A soft PPF absorbs a hard direct hit better than we do, and it costs thousands more to put on.
