The short answer:
Dragon Auto protects Mountain View cars with Icon Rocklear, a permanent paint protection coating that bonds to your clear coat and carries a 15-year warranty. One appointment at our Milpitas shop, 15 to 20 minutes from Mountain View via 237, and the paint is protected for as long as you’ll own the car. No film, no yellowing, no reapplication cycle.
EV OWNERS
A huge share of the cars we protect are Teslas and EVs, and a huge share of those come from the Peninsula. Tesla paint is soft and thin, it chips early and shows swirl marks fast, which is why so many Model 3 and Model Y owners start out searching for paint protection film. We don’t install PPF. It’s a templated film with visible seams, it yellows under UV, and peeling it off years later can take paint with it.
What we put on instead is Icon Rocklear, a permanent paint protection coating, up to 2.5 mils per layer, thicker than your factory clear coat and bonded into it, with no seams and nothing to peel off later. For the front end we layer it three deep across the hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors, which leaves a 237 commuter with far fewer chips than a bare front end. A soft PPF absorbs a hard direct hit better than we do, and it costs thousands more to put on. The side-by-side with ceramic and film, including what each costs over 15 years, is on our comparison page.
WHY IT MATTERS HERE
Mountain View driving is corridor driving: 101, 237, 85, Central Expressway, every day. Freeway commuting is exactly how front ends get sandblasted, grit and small rock strikes at 65 mph add up to a chipped, dull nose within a couple of years, and campus parking lots mean full sun on the paint all day. Icon Rocklear cures into a rigid shell over the factory paint, so road debris and UV work on the coating instead of your clear coat. It’s warrantied for 15 years, backed by ASTM D4587 UV testing, and it’s applied once.
