Icon Rocklear is a permanent protective coating that bonds to your clear coat, with no film to yellow or peel like PPF and no yearly reapplication like a ceramic coating. We’re one of the country’s highest-rated installers, just up the 880 from San Jose. Dragon Auto has protected over 4,100 Bay Area vehicles since 2017, with 420 five-star reviews.
ITS OWN CATEGORY
Neither one, and the difference decides how often you’re back at a shop. A ceramic coating sits on top of the paint, thinner than a human hair, and wears off in two to five years. PPF is a plastic film laid over the paint that yellows, shows seams, and gets replaced around year ten. Icon Rocklear bonds into the clear coat and becomes part of the paint, and when it finally wears, at least 15 years out even for a car parked outside, you add more instead of stripping anything off.
Ceramic still earns its place on glass, wheels and trim, where Rocklear can’t go, so it stays on our menu as an add-on you can choose. Film we no longer install at all, though a soft PPF does absorb a hard direct hit better than we do, at thousands more. WHY ICON ROCKLEAR
Icon Rocklear is up to 2.5 mils of real material per layer, thicker than your factory clear coat, bonded into it. Unlike PPF, there’s no film to yellow, lift, or replace every few years. Unlike a ceramic coating, there’s no yearly reapplication. It carries a 15-year manufacturer warranty, and under ASTM D4587 weathering testing it took 4,000 hours of extreme UV with zero visual change.
