Icon Rocklear Aftercare

Think of Icon Rocklear as a screen protector for your factory paint. Factory paint is softer than most people realize. Bird droppings on a hot summer day can eat through it in under 24 hours, leaving permanent damage that’s unfixable without a costly respray.

Icon Rocklear sits between those hazards and your paint. Scratches, acid etch, bugs, UV. They all hit the Rocklear first. And unlike factory paint, Rocklear is easy to polish out and repair. That’s the whole point of it.

Dragon Auto protected the paint on this Apex Blue Pearl Acura Integra Type S by applying Icon Rocklear, so scratches and bird etch hit the coating instead of the factory paint.
Dragon Auto protected the paint on this red Toyota GR Supra by applying Icon Rocklear, which adds gloss and color depth on top of the factory finish.

Step 1 - The First 30 Days

The Curing Period

The Curing Period

Your coating is still hardening. Treat it gently for the first 30 days.

During this time, avoid:

Automatic or hand car washes

Soaps or cleaning chemicals on the coated surfaces

Waxes or other protective products

If bird droppings, tree sap, or bugs land on the car during curing:

Gently rinse the area with water

Lightly wipe with a clean microfiber towel and detail spray

Don’t scrub

We’ll take care of any minor staining that’s left at your complimentary follow-up inspection.

Step 2 - Complimentary

Your Free Follow-Up Inspection

Your Free Follow-Up Inspection

Your package includes a free follow-up inspection and hand wash approximately one month after installation. At that appointment we will:

Verify the coating has cured properly

Address any application lines or imperfections

Remove any staining that occurred during curing

Answer any questions you have

Step 3 - Long-Term Care

Washing Your Coated Vehicle

Washing Your Coated Vehicle

Avoid automatic car washes with brushes. The brushes cause swirls in the Rocklear over time. Touchless car washes are fine in a pinch. For best results, hand wash with pH-neutral soap and clean microfiber towels.

When hand washing:

Apply foam soap using a garden hose sprayer or pressure washer foam gun, let it dwell for a minute, then rinse. This removes 60 to 80 percent of the dirt on most cars. Rinse thoroughly before washing to remove loose debris.

Still grimy?

Bugs, tar, or stuck-on grime: do a quick two-bucket wash. One bucket of clean soapy water, one to rinse your mitt between panels. Work from top to bottom.

Just dusty?

Light soil or water spots: skip the two-bucket wash entirely and go straight to drying.

To finish:

Lightly mist one panel at a time with rinseless wash or detail spray, then wipe with a soft plush microfiber towel. Start at the roof and work your way down to the lower panels and wheels last.

Step 4 - Easy Fixes

If Scratches or Stains Get Into the Rocklear

If Scratches or Stains Get Into the Rocklear

Light scratches, bird etch, acid rain spots, and minor contact marks can all be polished out of the Rocklear. Your factory paint underneath stays untouched.

By hand:

Apply a small amount of polishing compound to a foam applicator pad. Work it into the area with firm circular motions. Wipe clean with a fresh microfiber towel.

With a DA polisher:

A light pass with a finishing pad at medium speed takes care of it even faster if you own a dual-action polisher.
